A nice poetical review from MAZ, a german magazine.

  • Jazzdimensions, Carina Prange (Germany)April 18, 2012, 11:26 am

(Translated from the German original review) Elin Furubotn sings her songs in Norwegian: while she uses a phrase full, clear language about various dramatic and less dramatic unpredictabilities of life. She does this quite unpretentious, and even the instrumentation of the music on the album is quite discreet. And it is this lack of pomp [...]

  • INSIDE WORLD MUSIC (USA)April 16, 2012, 10:45 am

“At any rate, Elin is the most innovative artist to come out of Norway in recent memory. ~ (Matthew Forss, April 2012)”. Norway’s talented singer/songwriter, Elin Furubotn, is joined with an excellent repertoire of musicians and jazzy instrumentation. Elin incorporates a folk and pop vein into the mix. The thirteen songs represent a plethora of [...]

“Crossing the lines between jazz and folk. Heilt Nye Vei is an elegant and beautifully crafted album, wrapped in Norwegian folk, jazz and rock atmospheres. The CD booklet includes English translations of all Norwegian lyrics.” Heilt Nye Vei marks the international debut of respected Norwegian singer-songwriter Elin Furubotn. Her music is enriched with the sounds [...]

Norwegian Elin Furubotn’s International Debut Album, Heilt Nye Vei (New Path), just came out yesterday (April 10th) via Ozella Music. The singer-songwriter describe her music on the album as: “crosses lines between jazz and singer-songwriter stuff, between rock and folk, but I don’t like to split my interests and passions up. And in scenes like [...]

  • AntiMusic (USA)April 5, 2012, 11:24 am

This is Furubotn’s first international release so you can listen up and be among the first folks outside of Norway to dig her airy brand of acoustic-based pop music. Elin sings some of Heilt Nye Vei’s in English but there’s an exotica about the songs sung in Norwegian that make them the most appealing of [...]

  • Midwest Record (USA)April 4, 2012, 11:21 am

Inhabiting a rarified spot somewhere between Edith Piaf, Rickie Lee Jones and Lisa Ekdahl, Furubotn finds her first international release appropriately named (in English) “New Path” as it takes her astray from the sounds that made her reputation in her native Norway. A singer/songwriter that will remind people of Joni Mitchell from her fourth album [...]

  • Global Music Consciousness (USA)April 1, 2012, 11:26 am

In review–Norwegian Wood–Isn’t it good? When I hear the term Norwegian folk music, I usually think of traditional Norwegian music heavy on the hardanger fiddle and medieval folk ballads.  However, Norwegian folk can also refer to singer-songwriters such as Kari Bremnes, a Norwegian musical star, or so many others ranging from 20-years-of-age to well beyond [...]

  • First German ReviewMarch 29, 2012, 7:03 pm

(Translated excerpt) “This album leaves a mark on your mind, like a footprint in the sand. It is light as a feather and at the same time being a heavyweight. The music opens up the heart and will remove all everyday worry – at least for a little while. It is an impressive album from [...]

  • ØSTLENDINGEN (Nor. newspaper)March 17, 2012, 7:26 pm

(Geir Hovensjø) She is playful, dares to explore her own imagination, and is very much herself. This time, her backup musicians are of a rather jazzy persuasion, with saxophonist Karl Seglem playing a vital role. The music is nicely varied.
